Generating test cases from a user story, generating test data, generating Gherkin scenarios, generating ideas to explore. That's all great, and we use it every day, but it's already part of the past.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A written test case doesn't find a single bug. What finds bugs is going through the code and\/or executing those tests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And for that last part, I've been trying out Hootie Live Test, the AI-powered automated test execution tool developed by Kualitee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is Hootie Live Test?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Hootie Live Test is a live testing session with AI. You describe a task in plain language, the way you'd explain it to a teammate, and Hootie works through it in real time on your web application: it opens the page, reads the forms, fields and buttons, carries out the steps and tells you what happened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the advantages is that test cases are built from what actually happened on the screen, not from outdated documentation. We all have test cases in our suite with a button that's no longer called that, a field that moved, or a step that never existed. When the case is written by whoever executed it, that gap between the documentation and the application disappears. Of course, there's a risk that the application doesn't do what the documentation says and we end up accepting the behavior we observed as valid. That's why we can first describe what we expect to happen and then let it explore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">How do you use Hootie Live Test?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>It's pretty simple. Here's the step-by-step:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Open your project.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Acceder a Configuraci\u00f3n &gt; Ambientes &gt; y agregar el ambiente donde vas a probar. This is where the test cases start being generated. All imported cases are listed here with their current \"Validation Status\".<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>To validate the test cases, click \"Actions\" and select the Validate icon. You can also click directly on the validation status to start it.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Hootie reviews each case to check its structure, clarity and readiness for execution. Validated cases show the \"Success\" status. Cases that need attention are flagged so they can be fixed before running them.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go to the \"Executions\" tab. All successfully validated cases appear here as ready to run.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Select the cases you want to run.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click \"+ Add test cases to cycle\" (bottom right) to assign them to a Hootie cycle.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go to the \"Test Cycle Management\" section. The Hootie Copilot cycle will appear there, with a name that includes a timestamp, for example hootie_copilot_2026-11-07_12:09:14.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Open the cycle.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Click \"Run\". Hootie executes each case against your application's URL and marks each one as \"Passed\" or \"Failed\" in real time.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Where it fits and where it doesn't<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I think it's important to be honest about this, because it's not a magic tool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Where I think it adds value:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Regression of critical flows when builds ship frequently and there's no automated suite covering them, or while one is being built.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Teams where not everyone codes. A functional tester or a business analyst can leave behind an executable test case without writing code.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Documenting new functionality based on what the application actually does, with evidence for each step.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Less fragility with minor UI changes, because Hootie reads the screen on every run instead of relying on a fixed selector.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Where I wouldn't use it (or not yet):<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>As a replacement for an automated suite in the pipeline. If you have hundreds of cases running every night in CI with Playwright, Selenium or Cypress, that's still the most efficient option. I see Live Test as a complement.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Non-web applications. It works on a URL. A native mobile app or gameplay inside a console is out of scope.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Performance, load or security testing. That's not what it's for.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Production data. Always use test environments and test accounts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"translation-block\">There's a cost to keep in mind: every session consumes AI credits, and longer conversations consume more. My recommendation is to write short scenarios with a clear goal and an explicit expected result.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The tester's role doesn't go away<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Hootie executes what you ask it to and tells you what it saw. Deciding what's worth testing, what counts as a bug, how severe it is and what risk lies behind it is still our job. And there are things AI can't detect: a game can have zero bugs and still be boring.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>What changes is where we spend our time. Less time repeating steps and writing test cases nobody reads anymore, more time on exploratory testing, risk analysis and conversations with the team. Live Test runs the test on the real application, records evidence for each step and lets you re-run the case on every build.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Do I need to know how to code to use it?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>No. Tests are described in plain language. It helps to be clear about the expected result of each step.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Does it replace Selenium, Playwright or Cypress?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>No. For large suites running in a CI pipeline, code-based automation is still the most efficient option.
